Plane Seats For Children ... |
As soon as you can, once you've booked your flight, you need to make sure you are aware of the airline's policy for seating for families with young children and babies when flying with children.
In most instances, you'll find airlines reserve their bulkhead seats for families. These seats are positioned at the front of each cabin section. You need to find out about the seating policy because some airlines require you to pre-book these seats, and others will allocate these on a first come, first served basis. |

Easy Check- in With Children ... |
Like anything that involves travelling with children, make sure you leave plenty of time to get to the airport so you can check-in without any panics or fuss.
Work out what time you need to check-in. Then work out how long you will need to actually get to the airport, whether that's by rail or road. Then, to be on the safe side leave at least 30 minutes before you need too, this way you'll actually have time for any last minute nappy changes .
Also make sure you have planned out your route if driving. Try and find out if there are any planned road works that will add time to your journey too. And if there are any diversions make sure you've got a road map in the car.

Make flying with children easier ... |
For the easiest way to park your car, and hugely convenient when travelling with children, pre-book your airport parking.
It's certainly worth looking into a meet and greet parking service. This way, you and your family can drive straight to the airport terminal so you can simple get out of the car, walk a short distance to check-in and forget about trying to park your car. Your car will be taken from you by the meet and greet Rep. Then when you're due back, the Rep brings your car back to the terminal so you can make an easy get-away home.
If you aren't lucky enough to get a bulkhead seat then ask the Ground Crew if you can sit next to any empty seats if the flight isn't full. This way you can all spread out and your children can curl up across a couple of seats to try and sleep.
When you are waiting in the boarding gate make sure you don't unpack all your hand luggage as you'll be asked to board first. This is so you can have a little bit more time getting settled.

Baby Essentials When Overseas - formula, food etc. ... |

Purchasing Baby Foods & Water When Overseas
Read this useful guide on how you can find baby foods and nappies etc. when overseas. It also contains essential information on the water you should give babies and children to drink. Save a bit of room in your cases and be sure to pack a certain amount of baby food and a box of milk in your suitcase - it doesn't weigh much and could be a real benefit when you first arrive. This is so you can arrive safely at your destination and get settled before rushing off out in a blind panic trying to find formula – it’s especially worth packing some pre-bottled packs of formula milk too - or jars of baby food etc.
Safe Water For Babies
It’s not advisable, due to delicate tummies, giving your baby tap water when overseas. Give your baby bottled water for drinking. For making up formula also use bottled water and boil first as you would back in the UK. When buying bottled water it’s very important to check that the water brand you are buying contains less than 30 Na of sodium. If you’re travelling to Spain many of their pharmacies sell specially distilled water for babies.
Formula Milk
Whilst formula milk is readily available in Europe you will need to go to a pharmacy to purchase it. Similar brands are available but carry a different name, Cow & Gate in Spain for instance is called Almiron. For more information about buying your particular brand of milk overseas you should call the telephone advice line on the pack of your milk packet.
Buying Jarred Baby Foods
Anyone travelling to Europe will find it easy buying baby food in jars. Hero is a very available baby food in Spain and across Europe. Hipp is also readily available as are products from Nestle. Local supermarkets, although if you are somewhere remote then try a larger main supermarket, should all stock a good selection of baby foods and snacks. As will most pharmacies.
Buying Nappies
Buying nappies abroad is very easy. Just try any local supermarket where both main brands such as Huggies and Pampers are readily available. It’s important to note that in many European Countries cotton nappies are very rare, particularly in Spain, so if you normally use re-useable nappies then you may need to consider using disposables whilst you are away. |
