Read this helpful Cardiff Airport Lost Luggage guide you have experienced either Cardiff lost luggage, damaged, stolen or delayed baggage.

Cardiff Airport Lost Luggage ...

What a frustrating start, or end, to your holiday. You've arrive, only your luggage hasn't. Somewhere along the line it's got lost - or delayed, damaged or even stolen.

Even today, with computer systems in place, Cardiff Airport lost luggage is still something that happens quite regularly. So our helpful guide gives you all the details you need when claiming for Cardiff Airport lost luggage, Cardiff damaged baggage, Cardiff delayed baggage or Cardiff stolen baggage.

First you need to contact your airline to inform them that your luggage has gone missing. So add in the airline name below and their contact details will be listed.

Cardiff Airport Lost Luggage ...

When an airline agrees to carry a passenger's luggage then the British Airports Authority stipulate that they are solely responsible for the safety of the luggage.

  • So, if your bags go missing the first thing you should do is report your lost bags to the Lost Baggage desk at the airport.
Give a description of your bags, and the contents. Then you will be issued with a reference number so you can monitor the progress of your lost baggage online or by phone.

In most cases airlines won't actually class your luggage as lost until 21 days has past. After this time you can make a claim for compensation, however before this time your luggage is considered as missing.

Once negotiating a claim, many airlines say they are restricted by the Montreal Convention in paying passengers around £800 per person in compensation for lost baggage.

Transit Flights

If your journey involves several different flights, yet you only had to check-in your luggage once you are still able to make a claim against any of the airlines who carried it. Of course be prepared for them to all blame each other.

Certain items of hand luggage - like musical instruments, sporting equipment (surfboards) or prams and buggies - will be given an LTR. This is so the airline can waiver any responsibility should it get damaged. However, they have agreed to carry the item so they are then responsible for the safety of it. If the airline refuses a claim because of the LRT then they are in breach of the Montreal Convention.

Cardiff Delayed Baggage ...

As set out by the Montreal Convention, lost luggage is actually classed as missing up until 21 days. After this time it is considered lost and a claim can be started.

In the event of the luggage going missing on the outbound flight then airlines will normally offer one of the following immediate compensation options.

Money - a one off amount - to cover immediate purchases like toiletries and underwear.

An amount of money per day, up to a total number of days. Or the passenger may need to buy the emergency goods and will then be reimbursed.

Cardiff Damaged Baggage...

When you are making a claim for Cardiff damaged baggage then the airline will assess the damage to both the case and the contents and then offer an amount of compensation. However, like most insurance claims the amount will be subject to a depreciation value and therefore unlikely to match the amount claimed for.

If it's just the suitcases that are damaged then they are normally replaced immediately from the airline's store cupboard.

Cardiff Stolen Baggage ...

Few claims are successful when claiming for stolen items from luggage. This is because it's very difficult to prove that the items were there in the first place so it's a case of your word against the airline's.

Therefore, when travelling it is always important to use not only the highest quality luggage you can afford, but also to place all valuables in your hand luggage.

Also bear in mind that many airlines carry a clause in their terms & conditions stating they don't accept responsibility for valuables such as jewellery, mobile phones, cameras and camcorders so always carry these in your hand luggage.

Also, any items that are being claimed for that the airline considers “items unacceptable as baggage” won't be reimbursed for either.
